- Hawkwind
From Wikipedia: "Hawkwind are a British rock band, one of the earliest space rock groups. Their lyrics favour urban and science fiction themes. Notable fantasy and science fiction writer Michael Moorcock was an occasional collaborator." [I had forgotten all about Hawkwind until listening to BBC 6 Music today. They didn't actually play any Hawkwind—just mentioned them in a roundup of listeners' "I don't get TKbandname." I remember my friend Brandon was really into them, which made sense because he was in a sort of space-rock, noise-rock band. I don't know if I've ever really heard Hawkwind. I'll have to investigate.]
- Global Warming Is Irreversible, Study Says
Depressing. From NPR: "'People have imagined that if we stopped emitting carbon dioxide that the climate would go back to normal in 100 years or 200 years. What we're showing here is that's not right. It's essentially an irreversible change that will last for more than a thousand years,' Solomon says. ¶ This is because the oceans are currently soaking up a lot of the planet's excess heat — and a lot of the carbon dioxide put into the air. The carbon dioxide and heat will eventually start coming out of the ocean. And that will take place for many hundreds of years."
- Is There Life After Newspapers?
From AJR: "Only a handful–6 percent–found other newspaper jobs. The rest are doing everything from public relations to teaching to driving a bus and clerking in a liquor store."
- From SE Talk: "Winning haiku? No ‘Look Who’s Talkin” Last Week?"
Yikes! Looks like my efforts to help edit Talk topic titles is coming under fire!
- Pink Floyd-Themed Concert Cruise
The only thing lamer than a Pink Floyd concert cruise is a Pink Floyd-themed concert cruise.
