Tamara Shopsin’s bomb

by Adam Kuban

Tamara Shopsin is a pretty strong designer. When I opened the op-ed page of the Times this morning, I could tell that the illustration there was hers before even reading her illo credit. I think it’s the simple linear style and the way her illustration could be read as both a bomb and an on-off symbol. It seems that much of her work has this multi-meaning element. (I guess a lot of the illustrations on this page have that in common, though.) Who knows.

Nota bene: The only reason I subscribe to the New York Times these days is for the op-ed page, the crossword, and the weekend paper. I read the op-ed first thing while waiting for the train (and do the crossword on the way home). I think I may unsubscribe from the weekday editions, though.
